My class work is self paced so I could proceed in my own time without having to stress about not being ahead in my class. My teachers don't have any problems when teaching other than the occasional technology issues. Once I switched to CAVA I saw how civil the students were in the chat of our class calls. Senior: I first decided to go to CAVA at San Joaquin because I felt like continuing to attend an in person public school would not benefit my learning experience at all. CAUTION: CCA is based on an independent study model so if your child learns best in person or there is not one to serve as a Learning Coach, your learner will have a hard time being successful. And just like that - she jumped a math grade without the testing or the dreaded summer 'bridge' programs consisting of pre-recorded videos. By the next year, she was able to take Honors Algebra I. In the 7th grade, our daughter was learning a combination of 7th and 8th grade math. The curriculum is more advanced (even compared to our highly rated district). The BEST feature is the fact that we can see ALL of the lessons and assignments for the ENTIRE semester! This allowed us to get ahead if we took a vacation or had another extracurricular project we were working on. We were pleasantly surprised that the online learning platform - once we got the hang of it - was even better than anticipated. Parent: Our daughter enrolled in the 7th grade, at the beginning of the pandemic. There is not much in the way of clubs, sports, music and arts, but it's so easy to find that elsewhere. The counselors gave us plenty of help with her college application process. Cal-Pac teachers are top-notch and requesting one-on-one time with them is easy to schedule.

She has much more time to do other things, even volunteering at a preschool! It made us realize how much time is wasted at regular schools, like snack, lunch, time in between classes, dealing with disruptions in class, going at a slower pace for half the class while the kids that can keep up end up bored or frustrated. My daughter loves the whole experience of online classes. Cal-Pac has so much more experience in online education that choosing them was a no-brainer. We decided on Cal-Pac after Covid hit and her regular school scrambled to develop an online curriculum that just wasn't up to par. Parent: Our daughter is one of those children thrives in a self-paced environment. I highly recommend this school as a place that prioritizes education, mental health, safety, and life balance. Not having the distractions they once had in the in-person experience, allows them to have a better handle on their mental health, connect with family, and enjoy the learning process again. The school hosts field trips and various celebrations throughout the year so the kids can connect with their peers in-person as well. Both of my kids are in the honors courses and National Junior Honor Society, which places higher expectations on them which they appreciate.

The courses are challenging, which will certainly prepare them for higher education. This school is definitely superior to the in-person options, and provide the flexibility they need as scholar athletes! Their teachers are kind and engage frequently to guide their education to ensure they remain on track. Parent: My kids have been with CCA Southern, CA for several years now, and really enjoy it. I got so much more out of the 75 minutes twice a week in those classes than I have ever before.

When I got to class, everyone had something to say, a perspective to offer, and a point to make. Even so, being in an environment where everyone wants to learn was fantastic. I don't think I made friends or built bonds as well as I wanted to, but the academics nearly made up for it. I wished there was more interaction, as the clubs I was in weren't active and there was only one meetup in my area. I feel that my studying habits, time management, and so much more (especially analytical writing skills) progressed miles this year. This proved to be the opposite and was both fast-paced and engaging. I was surprised to be accepted, and even more surprised when I found that it was a good fit for my academic motivation and ability.

Freshman: Stanford was a big challenge for me! I applied without expectations to be accepted, as I just felt the DODEA school I was in wasn't challenging enough.
