I stab the strongest faction in the back (Seaxe). I let those two juggernauts kill each other and once they are both weakened. I go on to become the #3 power after Danelaw and Seaxe. I am confident I can beat Mierce now with good micro and defeat them as they are usually distracted with other factions by now.

I take out the other welsh kingdoms that are not seaxe vassals and grow in strength. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ declare war on powis as they are bussy in the south doing their regular thing. Powis gets roflstomped and mierce attacks me next.Ĥ. I'm like ''nope! not this time buddy! you're on you're on your own!'' and I let mierce struggle it out with a medium sized powis. Powis did exactly the same thing as it always ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ does and attacks the other 2 welsh factions drawing me in. Mierce invades but we (me and powis) beat them back but powis takes ALL the land except for caester. Mierce declares war on powis and I join on his side but gg mierce focuses everyting on me.Ģ. attacked the southern welsh factions and screwed my expansion options. This is ''normal'' difficulty mind you.ġ. Personally, I like to let everyone else do the fighting and go jump Dewet. You can take Ceaster if you want, or go sack his towns and hunt down his armies. Normally it's Powis, Djurby, Northymbre (if he isnt at war yet), a couple of the Borgs, even Sesilwig & Dewet will dogpile on. On Legendary I can usually get 4+ other nations to join the war. Use all your tools.money, wives, Friendship.etc. Invite all of Mierce's neighbors to join your war. Now you and Powis are at war with Mierce. The sooner the better so that after defeating him Mierce is momentarily drops in Strength Rank Also you want to do it before most of the Viking factions in England have already started their own wars.

Don't blow all your money quite yet, save 1500 or so, you'll need it in a couple turns.Īs soon as you feel your troops are replenished enough (within a couple of turns), attack and wipe Mierce's king's army out. Mierce's king will move there with a 6 stack. So guys who've had luck so far as Gwined, what was your strategy? Or is my best strategy to keep rolling a new campaign until RNG favors me?Īfter taking out the rebels in turn 1, move your army to Rudglenn. The game doesn't even try to give me this flexibility though. If given the choice, I'd taken an ally on the other side of Mierce and declare war on my assigned ally early in the game. Frankly it feels like having the ally punishes you more than helps you. Declaring war on them soon after dropping them though leads to more diplomatic penalties. This leaves me to believe the best process may be to dump your ally early, but with the diplomatic penalties and no room for expansion, your only choice will be to conquer your previous ally before Mierce realizes how weak you are.

They seem capable of summoning and feeding 2-3 decent sized armies while at that point I'm lucky to feed one with 10-12 units. If you join their wars, it never fails that within 6-12 turns of the game start, Mierce will declare war on you or your ally and that is a war that I simply cannot seem to win. Then as a small Welsh kingdom, Mierce will come knocking. You could choose to decline the war summon, but you get diplomatic penalties for doing so and usually your ally steamrolls the two, leaving you without expansion room. You start with an ally who almost instantaneously declares war on the two Welsh kingdoms to the south of them. That said, I've tried the campaign three times and have pretty much been overwhelmed before turn 30. It may not be the best, but I love how it looks in battle. I love the idea of a shield wall of spears supported by elite archer fire. That said, their faction just really meshes with me more than any other. I realize this is the game's "hard" start.
